About

For years, I worked as a Sustainability Advisor, helping companies navigate environmental change and reporting requirements from behind a desk. But I realised that real change happens on the ground and through small changes. I founded Acorn Ecological to bring my understanding of ecology and sustainability to the areas we have the most control of… our gardens.

With a degree in Environmental Science and five years of professional advisory experience, I bring an understanding of ecology and environmental systems that goes beyond the surface. My goal is to use that expertise to make real, tangible change for both my clients and the local landscape.

I believe that a garden should be a place of restoration and reconnection with the natural world. In an increasingly digital world, we’ve become disconnected from the smaller things that bring joy. Birdsong, the scent of your favourite flower, or just the morning dew on your lawn.

My approach is rooted in sustainability:

  • Chemical-Free: I never use weedkillers or harsh synthetics.

  • Considerate Working: I prefer manual tools over noisy machinery where possible to protect the peace of your property and the wildlife within it.

  • Local & Native: I prioritise native plants and natural materials.

Based in Blean village, I serve Canterbury, Whitstable, and the surrounding areas. My service is built on a genuine interest in your vision for your garden. I try to understand what gets people excited about their outdoor space. Whether you want a tidy, structured garden or a wilder nature reserve, I am here to ensure your property remains a space you’ll want to spend time in all year round.

Your Questions, Answered

Does a "Nature-Friendly" garden mean it will look messy or overgrown?

Not at all. We specialise in structured ecology. This means we use professional design principles to ensure your garden remains tidy and intentional, while the specific choice of plants and materials does the heavy lifting for biodiversity.

Do I need to be at home while you work?

This is entirely up to you. Several of our clients trust us to come to the property while they are out and carry out work. However, for landscaping on projects which require a little more feedback clients do prefer to be around from time to time, this also allows us to ask key questions and tailor the work based on personal preference. We always have in-person consultations before taking on any work and this is one of the things we cover then. Long story short, whatever you prefer.

Do you bring your own tools and equipment?

Yes, we use all our own tools and prefer to do so due to liability issues. However if you have a highly specific tool our piece of equipment you would rather we use can can make allowances in these cases

Can you handle green waste?

Yes, if you don’t have a green bin or composting area we can remove green waste for an extra fee. We also specialise in building composting areas as this is the most efficient way of dealing with garden waste. Get in touch to hear what our rates are for removal.

How do you charge? Hourly, or by the project?

We prefer to charge based on the project for landscaping solutions and one off jobs. However if a clients prefers we offer the possibility of charging by the hour for garden maintenance work.

Do you have public liability insurance?

Yes, we are insured for up to £5 million for public liability insurance

How far in advance do I need to book?

There are seasonal highs and lows, like any business. That being said a month is usually enough notice to schedule a visit. If you urgently need some work done we can be flexible and fit in appointments when needed.
